I’ll make this brief given the grief I’ve given everyone over the last couple of days when Norjie’s plane was cancelled and I went into total panic mode about how I was going to manage the situation given the domino effect of her not meeting up at the right time. Anyway, my ground team hosed me down once again and after a sleepless night of toing and froing, which was of course much worse for Nora who was frantically trying to find alternative flights to get her to Vegas, she finally arrived this afternoon around 2.30. We met up at the car hire place and the relief was enormous. From there things could not have gone more smoothly. I’d done all the paperwork for the car so once she’d produced her license we were set to go.
The drive to La Verkin was without problem and the hotel is absolutely fantastic. We both have a room which is great. The time keeps changing as we cross states so time was getting on. We went down to the quirky little bar and dining room and breathed a sigh of relief with a wine and a beer.
The funniest thing was that I got ‘carded’ i.e. I had tp produce ID before they would serve me alcohol. I told the waitress that that hadn’t happened to me for 60 years. She was very ernest and said that they had to do it for everyone. She then went off to photocopy our ID. Nora tells me they have to do it if you even go into a shop to buy a bottle of alcohol. The other rather odd thing is that everything on the menu had the number of calories next to it. Most off-putting!
Now it’s off to bed to be ready for a day in Zion tomorrow. Tomorrow I hit the road chanting ‘stay right’ to myself. Fingers crossed!!
